why foundations?

We created Foundations in response to our own experiences as pregnant moms in San Francisco. We were eager for community and education, but the hospital classes were mostly on Zoom and making new friends while carrying the loads of working, planning, and preparing was harder than we expected.

In interviewing dozens of new moms we found that we weren’t alone. Over and over again we heard:

I’m tempted to just go up to other pregnant people and ask if they want to hang out.

I have friends and family who are already moms, but they don’t live nearby.

The first months were so lonely; I wish I had a friend with a baby the same age to go on a walk with.

So, we took this need for community and paired it with the education and resources that we all wanted.

how it works

  1. You and your partner sign up for a cohort with programming that falls within 30-38 weeks of your pregnancy.

  2. We’ll place you in a cohort with up to 10 other couples who live nearby, all with a similar due date.

  3. Each cohort will have 4-5 sessions of educational workshops and social events.

  4. Workshops are expert-led and designed to give parents-to-be the content, conversation, and confidence they need to feel empowered ahead of giving birth.

  5. Each schedule is tailored to the interests of each group, as indicated by intake forms or interviews.
